The prompt this week in the Documented Life Project - The Journal is The Color Wheel.
I was away last weekend and this week I've been a bit tired so I haven't been in my studio. I spent the time thinking about how I might do this page. I thought about using old wagon wheels in different colors. Then I thought about tires in color. Next I researched quotes about color. This is way more thinking than I usually do for a journal page. LOL.
After all that.... when I sat at my table what came to me was.... Use those yummy Derwent Inktense Blocks... So many pretty colors. I bought these last September. Amazon had a fantastic deal...$53.87.. now they are $101.99 which is still $100 off of retail. I really like Derwent Inktense products. I also have the Inktense pencils.
What I like about them is that they are very vibrant and can be moved around with water. When they dry they become permanent which is my number one requirement for my art journal. My watercolor friends laugh because my first question is "Is that color waterproof?"
So after all that thought, I went with scribbling circles of color all over my page. I spread the color with a baby wipe. I let it dry and then added more color because I wanted it very vibrant.
Next I used Emerald Archival Ink to stamp a Just For Fun crackle stamp background. I've had the stamp at least 15 years. It is one of my favorites. I also stamped the dragonfly with definition in Monarch Orange Archival Ink by Ranger. I can't remember who made that stamp. I have a collection of winged critter stamps. The side view butterfly is another from my collection. It's unmounted and I don't know who made it either. The tiny dragonflies are from The Angel Company. All of these stamps have been in my stash for a very long time. I realize now it would have been helpful if I'd kept the names of all the companies who made them. When I bought them, it never occurred to me that I would one day be writing a blog or art journaling.
I have been practicing the splatter technique and I'm finding practice does help. I like how these turned out. They were made with watered gesso and a round brush that tapped on my finger.
The quote at the top is a packing tape/laser copy transfer. (sorry the photo's are missing on the link but the directions are there). I found the quote on Brainyquote. I composed the quote at the bottom. It's also printed with a laser printer and colored with Yellow Inktense.
The butterfly is a Sizzix die cut from a Gelli print. He is outlined with a silver Oil based Sharpie Paint Pen.
I really don't like it when I'm so tried that I don't get to the studio. Creating this page energized me. Color usually does that for me.

I started this page by using a piece of drywall tape as a stencil and some embossing paste tinted purple. After the paste dried I added bubblegum pink paint. See 1 below. Then I stamped a Hero arts stamp on tissue paper with Adirondack ink and glued it over sections of the embossed areas. See 2 & 3 below. I used a Montana Paint Marker to print the words and a white Signo gel pen to highlight the inside of each letter and traced around the outside edge of the letters with a Pitt Pen. I sketched a bird shape and then cut that shape out of 7 difference Gelli prints. I distressed the edges of the birds with Adirondack ink before using matte medium to attach them. I used a grey Pitt Pen to add a more shadow around the birds and edge of the page. As a final touch I used the edge of a credit card and gesso to make the vertical white lines. I called it Embrace Silliness because the birds were each so different and colorful.

Gelli Printing is just plain fun. The color combinations and the textures are endless. Each pull is a surprise. As you can probably tell, I like color. Oranges, Blues, Hot Pinks... have been calling to me all summer. The background of this page is made with pieces of Gelli Prints. I tore them and glued them in a random arrangement. The flower is another set of Gelli prints done with a flower stencil that I bought at WalMart and then cut out.
Then the doodle bug hit me and I doodled away until my butterfly was born. This page is a bit simple. That's one of the joys of an Art Journal. Anything goes... even a 4 line ditty about the change in seasons. I won't win a poetry award but it made me happy to write it, so this page was a success.
I've heard many people talk about the Zen-like meditation they experience while doodling. Doodling doesn't affect me that way. Cutting does... I can go almost into a trace while trimming images. I could do it for hours if my elbow didn't protest. Years ago when I taught stamping classes, my students would moan because my samples always had neatly trimmed images. I would have a card finished before I realized that I'd spent 45 minutes trimming all those tiny pieces of paper.

I have this friend who continues to amaze me. He listens when I talk to him. He remembered that I talked about baker's twine. We had this conversation months ago and yet he remembered. The baker's twine on this card is from him. He sent it to me in my birthday box. My birthday gifts were amazing...but the fact that he listens is priceless. Thank you, Mink.
This is my thank you card to him. My life is enriched because he is in it and to me he is Unfrogettable.
The images and words are Stampin Up Stamps. The background the frog is on is a gelli print. The frog eyes are Studio G glitter glue.

I've really enjoyed the Summer of Color 3. I'm sorry that its ending. This is my week 6 project. The colors were Sage and Sepia.
The background colors are a gelli print. The I used Claudine Helmuth Bird and Branch stamp.
The branch was stamped onto the background. The bird I stamped on Sage Paper with Versa Mark and embossed with clear powder.
The text on the bird is a Hero Arts stamps. The background was stamped with a Tin Can Mail stamp. The tiny words are Tim Holtz rubons. The white is gesso and made with a small container lid.
I am loving my Gelli Plate. I have instant backgrounds ready whenever I need one. The background of this card is a left over piece of a Gelli Print. The print was made using a round place mat. The stamps are Unity/Donna Downey. I'm loving these really tall flower (almost 8"). The word is a Hero Arts Stamp I've had for years.
This is a birthday card for my friend, Robin. It's late, once again.

I cut up piece of gelli prints and wove them on the page. Then I used a wash of gesso & paint. I used light dry wall spackle to make the ovals. Have no clue if they will crumble or not. The stuff is 5 years old. It was kind of soft so I could stamp into it which gave it some really cool texture. I used a several different stamps. Some were Hero Arts, Clear Snap & Penny Black.
This page was just playing with "stuff" I had. It's a little different for me and at one point it was soooo ugly. I'm so glad I've meet so many of you who say... "just keep adding layers." It really worked this time. A friend who does not have a Gelli Plate asked me what I did with all those prints. Today I cut them up and it was fun!!!
