Practice, Practice, Practice

If you are a frequent visitor to my blog you know that I have a thing for houses.  All kinds of houses. Cute, whimsical or farm house, I love them all.
I have found that it's easier for me to draw by looking at a line drawing than at a photo of an image.  I printed a line drawing of this house months ago. Every so often, I'll try drawing it again.  My friend, Tracey Fletcher King is a wonderful watercolor artist.  She suggested tracing the image you want to learn to draw.  It helps you get the feel for the lines I think.  The first house is one I traced and then colored with watercolor pencils.  I didn't get the chimney traced and that was the hardest part for me. The angle is off.I practiced the chimney a few times and then over the weekend I tried the house again.  I was playing in my sketchbook.  I'm very happy with the chimney this time. It's a big improvement.

The second house was all hand drawn (no tracing this time). I used a straight edge to help me do most of the lines.  That also help with this one.  I wish now I had started higher on the paper. I was just playing around. All my artist friends tells me to draw, draw, draw. I think they are on to something because each time I draw this house it gets a little better.  Practice does work.

  4. I got the feed for this one at the same time as the new one that mentions a give-away?! Quite bizarre and most annoying.
