As I write this I'm watching it snow. I live in Tennessee, USA. We usually don't get a lot of snow. Many winters, the only jacket I need is my hoodie. This year had been very, very cold. It's 25 degrees out there right now & that's warm compared to our last week. This weather has compelled me to work with these blues. I miss the blue sky.
I haven't just played with paint in a long time. The holidays and then my thumb surgery really gotten me off track.
Last night the paint called to me and I played. This is a page in my Things That Flies Book. I'm altering a book and it's falling apart. I had to use masking tape to keep the book together and now when you close the book the pages are all uneven. There is something about that..... it just makes me happy.
I started with gesso. My gesso was thicker than usual and I loved that. I used a heat tool to partially dry it. Then I added blue craft paint. I spread the blue with a credit card and since the gesso wasn't really dry I ended up with this beautiful sky blue color. I liked the texture so much that I added more gesso and after playing and swirling the credit card through the paint I ended up with this.
These pictures were taken when the paint was still wet. I love the shiny look in the pictures. It's not shiny this morning because it is flat paint. I could put a glossy medium over it but I don't want my pages to stick together.
My dilemma is that I like this background so much that I'm not sure I can make myself put anything else on the page. It's in a book full of things that fly.... I'll have to ponder this page a while.
Cold weather makes me stay in and become creative so maybe this was a good thing in disguise : )
ReplyDeleteLove the background as well.
Maybe adding a teeny weening damsel fly, firefly with iridescent wings and a delicate apple blossom twig with a handful of buds and blossoms would work and wouldn't cover much of the lovely background.
Annabelle : )
Beautiful squishy background Boo. Happy PPF, Annette x

this reminds me of the ocean-which I am just dying to see again. Gorgeous! I can see why you don't want to add anything but I bet something will come :)
ReplyDeleteHey Boo! I see one of my friends right up there - Annette - she is so cute. As I write this from the mountains of Western North Carolina - it is 50 degrees and sunny. I just went for a nice little walk. Love you painted page - it is absolutely positively delicious! I love an art journal that is pasted and taped and held together with a rubber band. That would make me happy! Now I haven't made one yet but I intend to . You know what they say about the road to hell!

Really lovely!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, beautiful blues Boo. It reminds me of blue satin sheets all ruffled in the morning :D (not that I have any, too cold, lol) I'm glad you're back to getting painterly. Looking forward to seeing what's next :o)
ReplyDeleteNice texture and color. I use wax paper between the pages that might stick.
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I like it how it is too...maybe this could be your "Things that fly need a place to soar" page...it could be a sneaky way of getting to leave it as is! But, on the opposite side, you made it once, so if you needed to, you know you could make it again...that makes adding things less scary! I can't wait to see what you decide!!! <3<3<3
