I made a mini book last night out of a piece of brown paper. The book measures 1.75 inches square.
I used deckle scissors to trim the edges and a colored staple to bind it. I gessoed this first. I didn't like how the images I stamped so I gessoed over that making the surface rough and uneven. I used Stazon to stamp the flowers and the butterfly. Maybe it was the rough surface but I couldn't get clean images. I used sharpies to color my little flowers. Then I stamped some tiny words using Latte Adirondack ink. I used a damp stipple brush to add a little blue to the background. Of course, that smeared my Latte in places. I also put a little sepia around the edges of the page.
I'm posting this because I read a blog post by Julie Fe-Fan Balzer about Art Journaling everyday. She asks people to post what they are working on even if they don't like it. I don't like this page. It's one of my least favorite pages I've ever done. That's ok, because for me, the point is the process. The point is to do something creative everyday. I also learned about stamping on a rough gesso surface.
How bizarre...I finished making my very first book last night. It's about 2.5" x 3.5" and is made from a junk mail booklet.
ReplyDeleteI love what you have done here and the size is amazing. I haven't tried stamping in gesso yet. Your colours are beautiful.
I have lots of work I don't like, lol - thank you for sharing yours :0) Mo
