Long Weekend

Here in the US we are celebrating Memorial Day this weekend.  I work for a church and the pastor has been collecting photos of parishioners' family members who served in our military and have now died. This week I've scanned pictures from WWI, WWII, Korea, The Gulf War, Irak and Afghanistan. So many men and women who fought to keep my country safe. I would like to take a moment to say thanks to all of them for their dedication and service.                                                                                                          This is a true mixed media page. I used paper, paint, glue and fabric.  The dancing person came from a muumuu that I bought years ago.  It's finally become threadbare and now I don't feel guilty cutting it up to use in my art. The grass and the sun are also pieces of the muumuu.  I glued the dancer and sun to a piece of card stock because that makes it much easier to cut out. I used yet another painted page of encyclopedia paper for the background.  The words are written with a paint pen and backed with a yellow highlighter to make them stand out.  I'm very happy to have a long weekend away from work. That means 4 days of art journaling, reading and sleeping !!
