Birds

Yellow Warbler
I'm learning to draw birds.  In real life I'm not a bird watcher. I don't even want to be really close to them but in art I love them.  They are a reoccurring image in my collage work.  Maybe it's because I'm not a bird watcher but I can't draw a bird from memory. All my by memory birds look like cartoon birds.  

This little fellow I found in a book Ann has at Studio 901. Portraits of Nature by Roy Purcell is a wonderful book full of nature photos.  

 I'm new to watercolors and I haven't gotten the hang of using black just right.  The photo had more black but this is my version of the photo.

 I'm very excited my birds are actually starting to look like birds.  

 I am trying to post a bird most days.  There is page on this blog called Birds if you want to follow my progress. 

 I think I see a bird book in my future if I really want to learn to draw birds.

    Beautiful painting. I love watching birds in nature, and often sit on my balcony just to watch their antics. Valerie

    I love birds, and think your watercolor is very pretty. I love that you captured him singing, because that's one of the things I enjoy about birds. Blessings!

    My studio is upstairs, and there's a huge tree outside my office window. I daydream, and watch the birds more than I should. :) I think you nailed it with this painting. You may be new to watercolors, but you're doing great.

    Boo, remember when you told me "I can't draw"? I just am lovingly pointing out how you were WRONG...just WRONG...floating in a sea of WRONG!!! I love your warbler! I'm so proud of you, my Boo!!! You are stretching your creative wings so beautifully! I am so happy you found something that you like to draw! Also, a little birdy told me to tell you thank you for drawing him...and that you were WRONG! Haha! :) <3<3<3

    This is a wonderful little bird! Awesome job - watercolors are super tricksky, so keep working them!
