This girl dancing photo was posted on the Maria Montessori Community Page on Facebook. The thought of this little girl dreaming of flying through the air like the ballerina had me smiling and I knew it would be perfect in my Things That Fly book.
I started by painting the page with gesso. Then I added a bit blue to the leftover gesso and painted around the edge of the page. I used the Silhouette Script Stencil by The Crafter's Workshop to make the script border around the pages with smoke blue paint. Bits of blue and pink, the colors in the little girl's shirt, were added to the left side. The photo was glued with mat medium. The words were written with a white Pitt pen and then outlined with pink and blue Montana Paint pens. I wanted just a hint of yellow so I used a tracing wheel (used in sewing) and a little yellow paint to make tiny dotted lines of yellow all over the page. I also used a woven place mat and pink paint to add texture.
Such a wonderful image to use in your book Boo. It is quite a powerful image that gives an insight into a childs pretend play. I can imagine the wee one dancing the whole way around the room, thinking of the lady in the picture. The colours you chose to use are perfect and I really like the idea of using a tracing wheel. Excellent page Boo :o)
