Too Many Changes

It seems like there has been a lot of changes in my life recently. I'm feeling a little sad about the last one. My co-worker is leaving.  It's a great opportunity for him.  This is a great move for him.  I'm happy that this new job will have a positive effect on his life in so many ways.  All that being said, I'll miss him. He has been a bright spot in my work life.  He is young and playful and I've enjoyed laughing with him.

I started this piece thinking about a black and white challenge.  I have several layer of black craft paint and gesso on it.  I wanted more texture so just for fun, I smashed a sizzix texture plate into the wet gesso.  When I pulled the plate off, layers of paint came with it.  I was expecting a texture pressed into it and instead I got this wonderful texture from the plate removing paint.  It feels bumpy and uneven and I love it.

The black and white just weren't doing it for me.  My heart is a little tender and it was screaming in my head..."too many changes."  That hot pink paint screams off the page just like the words were doing in my head.  I am finding that I'm putting my feelings into my art work more and more often these day.  That's a positive change.

I saw this quote on facebook today:  It's how I feel today.

  4. sorry to hear that you're feeling so pressed by changes happening in your life. it's always difficult when you feel out of control of your environment around you. I totally understand how you feel at the moment. Feeling much that way too. I try to keep what I can the same and also close to the vest, so to speak. Kind of like turtling for a while, pull into my shell untilI feel more comfortable and safe. I'm so glad to hear you're putting your feelings into your art, it's a great outlet. Thanks for sharing and the comic is priceless... "damn hallways!", hehehe.

  5. Sorry to hear you're feeling sad about too many changes, Boo. Like Jennifer said above, I am glad that you're putting your feelings into art. It can indeed be a great outlet, and your page is great! I have to try what you did with the texture plate that picked up paint. Neat! :-)))

Quietfire Design has a rubber stamps that says, "If nothing ever changed, There'd be no butterflies." I love that quote. Sometimes changes are blessings in disguise ....

You can see the rubber stamps here, written in beautiful calligraphy:

Thanks for sharing, both your thoughts and your art. What a funny cartoon!

    Take care ...

  6. I hate change, and a lot of changes at once is the worst. Your lettering and the flowers feel optimistic to me, so hopefully you're feeling some of that too!

  7. I'm sorry that you are so sad, it is hard when things change so much. I wish I could put my feelings into my art but like Jenn, I tend to close up and hide. That facebook cartoon is so true but just think of the light when you find the next door to open. Your next work colleague might be just as much fun.
I love the texturiness (if that's a word) of your painting.

  9. oh, Boo, I so understand. It seems that we're always navigating changes that don't necessarily fit our lives. it's amazing how you can see the good in this change for your friend, and wish him well. I am sure that he will miss you as well. often those who are "left BEhind" in others' changes don't see that the new things coming up may challenge those who are moving on, too. I often forget this and am reminded that in my many moves and Life changes I have spent much too much time in the hallways, thinking it was just me... the thing is, usually there are others in the hallway, too. I am glad to read your art is helping your mood. that's my go-to, too. your painting speaks to me of hope. keeping good thoughts for you and your co-worker as you both move into a new relationship.

  10. Well, I felt sad for only a moment then saw your last quote and actually laughed out loud(in real words, not initials!) Changes can be hard, especially when it is missing dear friends. I love your page, great work, and love that you are really expressing yourself.

  11. that quote is soooooo perfect and I sometimes find change a bit hard... and I do love positive people so it would be hard to lose a work colleague who makes work easier... hope things are settling down...xx

    1. Things will settle down. Adam is a huge baseball fan so I'm going to make him a baseball collage as a going away gift. It will help me to put some of my love into a project for him.

  12. Adam is a very special guy by the sound of it Boo...but then you're a special friend too and I'm sure the feeling is mutual.
I have had so many changes in my life with being an expat for the last 24 years, but I have to say most of the time...when that new door opens it can be so unexpected and just what we need with wonderful opportunities.
I hope everything works out for you...I really do.
Your artwork looks like although you are feeling a little sad at the moment ...it looks like it was fun to create.
The cartoon made me giggle and I love it...so thank you for that...I needed a laugh today.
I hope you are able to smile today :D
