Combination of Challenges and Prompts

Umbrella Man is my new Tim Holtz die.
I thinking I might be obsessed with
 him.
Umbrella Man is perfect for the Rain Challenge
in A Year in the Life of an Art Journal.
I love it when I can combine different ideas into one piece.

I've been doing challenges and prompts from several different art journal blogs.  I combined the Rain Challenge in A Year in the Life of an Art Journal, Prompt 6ix # 2 from Daisy Yellow and the Creative Everyday challenge and the left picture is the result.

His jacket is a copy of a piece of sheet music I found online and the quote I wrote.

The themes I used were dark, lime green, grunge, treasure hunt and acrylic paint.  I made his coat extra long so that it look like a man wearing formal wear, is out in the rain, looking for treasure.

The quote is:  "Green Rain," the umbrella man sighed with disdain.  This is one of the more whimsical pieces that I've done.

The right is a result of playing with distressed in as a background.  I used a brush as well as direct to paper.  I used a dylusion stencil and white Stampin' Up ink for the checked border and tried my hand at lettering for the words.

  1. Hey Boo, I reallllly like your sheet music piano man!! His pose and that classic newspaper-under-arm is just priceless. The distressed background works really well to pull it all together. Well done!

  5. These are both lovely pieces. I especially like the sheet music, it gives a really vintage feel to the first one. Distress stains are one of my favourites, especially on gesso because you can really move them around & mix them to make fabulous jumbles.
