The tools of an art journal change from day to day... at least at my studio they do. I spent 10 minutes yesterday looking for my Pampered Chef mini spatula. When I baked I always knew where it was. These days I spend more time creating art than creating baked goods.
Why did I need my mini spatula? To scoop up tiny letters for my Diagonal Page, of course.
This is my first time using my Tim Holtz die to cut letters. The die works great but its not so easy to place all those little letters right where I wanted them. Enter my kitchen tools. My mini spatula and my frosting spreader help a great deal. I used the spreader to mash down my letters once I started gluing. I love gel medium as a glue. It gave me enough time to move the letters so I could place them exactly where I wanted them. The other tool I could not do without is my "pokie tool" aka paper
piercer. It's great for picking up tiny pieces and moving things around on a page.
This page was done with strips of paper left on my desk as well as several different gelli prints. The quote is one of mine. I lived on the straight and narrow for a long time. It was safe but pretty darn boring. The diagonal path sometimes takes longer but it's a lot more fun!

Lighting really does make a difference. I took the photo on the left inside and the one below outside on a cloudy afternoon. The one taken outside has much truer colors. Note to self... take photos outside whenever possible.
I'm glad this one is finished. I was a bit out of my element and it took some pondering to decide how to finish it. I was worried that I worked all the way to the edge and it would be hard to frame. Then it hit me, it can be mounted on mat board and then framed so I didn't have to cut it up and put it on canvas. I hope my friend likes it. I'm very pleased with it. Part of me wants to frame it and put it on my wall.

Paper, mat board, corrugated cardboard, gelli prints, craft foam, texture paste, paint, burlap, string, E6000 and Scotch Quick Dry glue were all used to make this piece. I just have one more thing to say....
