More About the Journal

I have kept a journal on and off for most of my life. During the last few years I've journaled on line in a private journal because it's easier for me to type than write.  I started Art Journaling a little over a year ago.  For me... it was all about the art and not much about journaling. I didn't write what I was thinking and feeling very often in my art journal. I expressed myself with ink, paint, paper and stamps.  It is almost a Zen experience for me.  I don't think about problems, housework or even food most of the time.  I often finish a page and realize I'm really hungry.

It took me by surprise that this page... the first prompt in The Documented Life Project... was all about the journaling. The words on this page woke me up two mornings in a row. That hasn't happened in a very long time.  The second morning I knew I needed to go with it. These words needed to be on this page.  Who knew that a picture of a door would bring forth so many thought and feelings.

I'm not a scrapbooker. All those photos and rules make me want to scream so I'm surprised that I seem to want to document bits and pieces of my life. I can already tell that my book is going to be different... right now it has a few calendar pages but I don't know if that will continue.  I do like the idea of actually putting quotes I like in the book.  I have a page in the front of the book I plan to fill with quotes. When it's full I'll start another somewhere else in the book. I have a feeling this book is going to be haphazard... a mixture of mixed media madness...calendars, thoughts I want to remember and ART.  Always art.

  1. Boo, I am always impressed by how much your art moves along a winding path, going this way & that, but always the art remains the centre and always improving and fulfilling and inspiring. I truly love to see what you do each & every time :o) x

  2. I love the freedom we can achieve when creating ~ whatever you include will be a reflection of you at a particular point in time.

    Happy New Year!

  3. Hey Boo - I have one whole journal full of quotes that I love and pictures of people that I love. It is not a picture album and it is not a scrapbook.

  4. Fabulous! I'm doing this project too and love that we can all just make it our own.
