Gelli Printing is just plain fun. The color combinations and the textures are endless. Each pull is a surprise. As you can probably tell, I like color. Oranges, Blues, Hot Pinks... have been calling to me all summer. The background of this page is made with pieces of Gelli Prints. I tore them and glued them in a random arrangement. The flower is another set of Gelli prints done with a flower stencil that I bought at WalMart and then cut out.
Then the doodle bug hit me and I doodled away until my butterfly was born. This page is a bit simple. That's one of the joys of an Art Journal. Anything goes... even a 4 line ditty about the change in seasons. I won't win a poetry award but it made me happy to write it, so this page was a success.
I've heard many people talk about the Zen-like meditation they experience while doodling. Doodling doesn't affect me that way. Cutting does... I can go almost into a trace while trimming images. I could do it for hours if my elbow didn't protest. Years ago when I taught stamping classes, my students would moan because my samples always had neatly trimmed images. I would have a card finished before I realized that I'd spent 45 minutes trimming all those tiny pieces of paper.

Did you ever wish you had a house at the beach or a cabin in the woods? A place that was quiet and peaceful? My place would be at the beach. The beach conjures the sound of ocean waves and a lazy days.
This is my imaginary beach house by the sea. It's quiet, has a wonderful space with lots of windows for my studio and has a screened in porch that faces the ocean where I can nap. It also has room for a least 5 art friends to visit and play for hours on end. Since it's imaginary, it also has someone who cooks for us so we can play with paint and ink all day long. Do you have an imaginary place?
The house is made from a very cool piece of paper I've had for years. It's shiny and looks like real wood. I torn the edges to give it a rustic look. The windows are a gelli print that I stenciled with a screen pattern. The tree was done with a catalyst tool and the leaves were made with a pallet knife. The letters are stick ons that someone was getting rid of and of course I took them.

The Gelli Plate is a never ending journey of fun. Yesterday I posted my homemade stamps and when I started playing with them I thought about how cool they would look if a slid them across the ink. This is so darn easy with the Gelli Plate. I think the picture to the left will end up being on the cover of one of my art journals. I love how it looks with the letter stretched. The color is a mixture of blue and hot pink paint. I love how they mix to make a purple color in some places.
Below is a print I made while trying to clean off the other ink on the plate. The head is a Julie Fei-Fan Balzer stencil. You can see bits of the purple from a previous peeking through in places.
